“For the Sake of Thy Son”

When a prayer in a church includes the phrase, “For the sake of Thy Son,” there is one thing that is obvious. The prayer is not to the Son Himself. It is a prayer to the Father for the sake of His Son. Therein lies a problem. Yes, the phrase is used in countless churches and has been used for centuries. But, there is still a problem. Christians are followers of Christ. Jesus Christ told His disciples to “Follow Me.” He told them to “Come to Me,” Come to Him, He told them, and He would give them rest.

It is important to turn to Jesus Christ and talk, pray, to Him. He commands it of us. He is our Savior. He said that we should do His sayings. In prayer, we should not be talking about Him but to Him.

Jesus Christ is with us. It is not difficult to picture Him, is it? He walked here on earth. He picked up little children. He healed the sick. He wept over them. He loves you, He loves all of us. Turn to Him. Pray for the strength to do His sayings,

What then of the Father? Shouldn’t we pray to Him as well? Jesus of course speaks a lot of the Father. He prays to His Father. Remember King David, though. Read through the Psalms of David. There are times when David prays to, talks with, his soul. Though David talks to his soul, they are not two separate people. In a similar way, Jesus prayed to the strength, the soul, within Him. The Father was that inner part. This is why, when Philip asked Jesus to show him the Father, Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?”

There is of course a lot more to be said on this subject. We will talk later about the Trinity, and what that Trinity is.

For the present, what we want to say is that we are Christian. We worship Christ, we pray to Christ. And we believe that our Lord Jesus Christ is the one only God.
